At Vasco da Gama CoLAB, we are driving innovation across the entire electrochemical energy storage value chain — connecting advanced battery chemistries, smart power electronics, and system-level integration. With our strong industry-academia partnerships and mid-TRL prototyping capabilities, we’re positioned as a key player in shaping Europe's green transition.

 

As associate member of BEPA and IPCEI on Batteries, we bring enhanced credibility in the European battery value chain.

From electric mobility to stationary storage and grid stability, we support the development of the next generation of energy storage systems through:

High-Frequency Power Converters & Grid Interfaces

We design tailored high-frequency converters, including advanced magnetic components and SiC/GaN-based architectures. Our modular multilevel inverters and isolated DC/DC converters come with distributed control, ready for TRL7 applications in solar and storage-to-grid interfaces.

Battery System Design & Characterisation

We engineer and assemble custom battery modules and packs, covering lithium-, sodium- and redox flow-based technologies. Our laboratories enable scalable testing protocols, real-time SoC estimation, thermal and aging analysis, and integration from cell to system level.

Smart Substation & Legacy Retrofitting

We develop intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) with real-time monitoring capabilities using EtherCAT and other industrial Ethernet protocols—supporting grid resilience through hardware and firmware innovation.

Raw Materials Validation & Circular Strategies

Our in-house equipment validates the functionality of battery-grade precursors and electrode materials. We also contribute with electrochemical modelling to evaluate material performance, degradation and end-of-life scenarios.

Sustainable Mobility & Maritime Applications

From mobile energy solutions for ports to fast OPS vessel charging, we deliver battery systems optimised for challenging environments—leveraging expertise from EV infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of maritime decarbonisation.

Modelling, Sizing & Economic Assessment

We provide technical-economic tools for battery system sizing, performance validation, and commercial pathfinding—empowering partners to make data-driven decisions with confidence.
